Why Do It Yourself Skin Care Is the Way To Go

You don’t need to break your budget each month purchasing high-end skin care products. Making them yourself will not only save you money, but most of the ingredients are probably in your pantry or refrigerator. Most importantly, DIY skin care products are natural and typically made from items that do not contain anything artificial. It’s a great way to live more sustainably and reduce your carbon footprint.

DIY Skin Care Products

There are plenty of products around your house you can use to keep your skin feeling smooth and soft and make perfect additions to all natural Shea butter or cocoa butter. Here are some DIY skin care items you can make:

  • Avocado: Mix the mashed pulp of an avocado with a ½-cup of honey. Apply to dry skin, and rinse off after 15 minutes. Use this recipe as a hydrating face mask once or twice a week.
  • Oatmeal: To relieve dry skin all over, add one cup of plain oatmeal into a warm bath. Add a few drops of lavender oil and soak for up to 30 minutes.
  • Olive oil: This oil contains antioxidants and healthy fatty acids which are good for your skin. Dab some on your face under your regular moisturizer. You can also rub olive oil on your dry skin about ½-hour before a shower. Apply a light moisturizer afterward.

You Are What You Eat

Another reason DIY skin care is the way to go is because you can forego putting products on your skin if you simply eat right. Improve your skin from inside simply by adding certain foods to your diet. There’s nothing more DIY that this! Some examples include:

  • Fish: Salmon, tuna, trout, and herring contain high levels of omega-3 fatty acids, which help strengthen your skin’s barrier and retain moisture.
  • Nuts: Rich in Vitamin E, nuts are an easy dry skin remedy because it protects the skin from oxidative cell damage and protects the skin from UV-ray damage.
  • Sweet potatoes: These root vegetables contain beta carotene and Vitamin A, which are important for preventing dry skin and premature aging.
