There are many classes of essential oils and a favorite class of these are the citrus family. Citrus fruits are favored for their scent and also for their amazing health benefits. Essential oils in this family are: Lemon, Lime, Grapefruit and Orange.  This article will explain the fantastic benefits and risks of each of these citrus oils.

Grapefruit is a citrus essential oil that is cold pressed. It has an energizing tropical scent that can be used both aromatically and topically and even in foods and beverages.  A powerful component of Grapefruit essential oil is d-limonene. Limonene is used in food, drinks and also as a flavoring additive. It is also used in pharmaceuticals when limonene is added to medicinal creams to aid in absorption into the skin.      

Orange Essential Oil

Sweet orange essential oil is a cold pressed oil extracted from the rind of oranges. It is a favorite ingredient in many aromatherapy blends. It is an affordable natural remedy with many health benefits and is a favorite food additive in various dishes. It is most widely used for its energy boosting and anti-anxiety effects.

Lemon Essential Oil

Lemon essential oil is made from extracting the oils lemon rinds by using a cold-press. It is a favorite among essential oil users because it is natural, inexpensive and has a wide variety of uses. Lemon is a natural antifungal and antibacterial. It can be used in culinary, medicinal, and also home uses in cleaning supplies. It is an affordable oil that is a great holistic ingredient in hundreds of natural recipes. 

Lime Essential Oil

Limes are one of the most well-known, tropical fruits used in almost every culture where they are available for mostly culinary uses. Limes contain flavonoids which are phytochemicals that may have several health benefits in balancing PH and in helping people manage certain metabolic disorders. It also has alkalinizing properties and is a natural antioxidant. It is a great essential oil because it has many uses and isn’t pricey!

All of the previously mentioned oils are in the citrus oil family, which contain compounds that can make you more sensitive to the sun’s UV light and may increase the risk of sunburn. Use caution if you are in direct sunlight and do not apply it topically before entering tanning beds or going to the beach. Do not ever start or stop any natural remedy, supplement, or treatment without first checking with your healthcare provider and discuss the risks and benefits. Be sure you are using a bio-friendly, 100% therapeutic grade oil. Do not ingest a low-quality oil, as they may be filled with other products and not 100% pure.
