Botanical Name: Syzygium aromaticum
What is it?
Clove essential oil is extracted from the dried flowers of the clove tree. It is used both in culinary dishes and also for medical uses.
How can I use it?
Antimicrobial. Clove essential oil contains antimicrobial and antifungal properties. Specifically, there is a component of Clove oil called eugenol that has been proven to effectively kill various types of bacteria and fungi. A safely diluted solution of clove oil can be applied topically to prevent infection.
Aromatherapy. With its comforting spicey aroma, clove essential oil is the main ingredient in most pot pouri recipes. When added to a diffuser, it can provide an amazing aroma that can boost your mood and promote a soothing atmosphere. It can be paired with other essential oils such as pine tree, tea tree or sweet orange for a therapeutic blend.
Oral Health Benefits. Many holistic practitioners use clove oil as a natural remedy for toothaches and recommend it to prevent cavities and promote oral health.
