Explaining Essential Oils- Frankincense

Frankincense Essential Oil

Botanical Name: Boswellia sacra

What is it?

Frankincense essential oil is extracted from the dried resin from the Boswellia tree, which is predominantly found in Africa and Arabia. It has been used for generations for its healing benefits and was also used in ancient Egypt in the mummification process. Indigenous cultures used Frankincense in religious ceremonies and this essential oil is widely used in modern Ayurvedic medicine because of its healthy ingredients.

How can I use it?

Asthma Treatment

Research published by the National Center for Biotechnology Information revealed that 70% of patients showed improvement in their respiratory issues when they were treated with gum resin of the Boswellia tree, also known as Frankincense.

Diffusing Frankincense oil is a great way to naturally treat asthma and other respiratory issues.

To Use: Add 2-4 drops of pure Frankincense essential oil into your diffuser with clean water. Diffuse as desired to promote respiratory wellness.

(Note: Never take an essential oil internally without first checking with your physician.)

Skin Care

Frankincense contains many healing ingredients proven to improve a myriad of skin care issues. In addition to it being naturally antiseptic, it has been shown as an effective treatment to heal dermal fibroblasts. Frankincense was found to improve skin by reducing scar formation and promote wound healing. When safely applied to a wound, it can decrease healing time and prevent permanent scarring.

Depression Support

Medical Studies have shown frankincense can promote antidepressive effects and can be a natural treatment for moodiness. Many holistic health practitioners recommend applying a safely diluted solution of frankincense oil to your wrists, neck, and collar bone to promote a calmer mood and treat anxiety. You can also diffuse Frankincense oil in your home or office diffuser to induce a brighter mood.

What are the benefits?

Frankincense contains many healing ingredients such as: Phellandrene, Limonene, Pinene, Borneol, Farnesol and Myrcene which all have anti-inflammatory and disinfectant properties.

What are the risks?

Research reports suggest that frankincense may increase the risk of miscarriage so pregnant women should avoid internal, aromatic and topical use of this oil.
