Essential Oils for Your Hair

 

A luscious head of beautiful hair is something most people aspire to have, that’s why chemical laden products such as moose, hair spray and hair gel are so abundantly popular. But did you know that there are many essential oils you can add to your shampoo to fix a myriad of bad hair day issues? Below is a list of ways you can use essential oils to improve your hair.

Hair Loss-

In a study published by the National Center for Biotechnology Information, Rosemary was shown to be an effective treatment against hair loss in patients with alopecia. Adding a few drops of rosemary to your shampoo may help reduce the amount of hair you lose.

Natural Lice treatment-

The International Journal of Dermatology claims that tea tree and peppermint essential oils are an effective treatment in both the prevention and treatment of head lice and is safe to use on children. Brushing diluted solutions of these oils into your hair can prevent you from getting head lice and treat it if you have an infestation.  

Dandruff Deterrent-

Medical research on the treatment of dandruff by the use of the essential oil,  lemongrass was performed by the School of Cosmetic Science, Mae Fah Luang University, Chiang Rai, Thailand showed that it was successful in the treatment of dandruff and also in treating patients with complains of flakey, itchy scalps. Applying a diluted solution of lemongrass essential oil may help you cure your dandruff issue.

Strengthen your Hair-

Clary sage and lavender essential oils both contain the linalyl acetate, which can promote hair growth and prevent damage. To use, add a few drops of lavender and clary sage essential oils to your conditioner and leave in for 15 minutes before rinsing.

 

Warnings-

Be sure you are using a therapeutic grade essential oil that is 100% pure and not mixed with filler ingredients. Do not get the essential oils in your eyes or mouth. Use caution when applying them topically and immediately discontinue use if you have any signs of irritation, allergic reaction or discomfort. Before you use essential oils on your child, ask their pediatrician first.
