Having a bad hair day? Here’s some holistic health hacks to fix it!

Bad Hair Day Breakthoughs!

Holistic Hair Secrets you'll want to know!

A bad hair day can make it tempting to reach for those chemical laden products such as mousse, hair spray and hair gel, but did you know that there are many natural products you use to fix bad hair day issues? This article will reveal some of the best kept holistic hair hacks to improve your hair.

Brassy Color Buster

Applying lemon juice to highlighted or light-colored hair before being exposed to direct sunlight may help lighten it naturally. For decades, people have used lemon juice to naturally enhance blonde hair and prevent a “brassy” tone with highlighted hairdos.

It is recommended you test to see how the lemon juice will react to a single strand of hair before applying it to your whole head. Lemon juice will naturally “lift” a hair color, but every hair color is different depending on its specific shade.  Test one strand of hair before applying all over your scalp.  Also, be sure to NEVER get lemon juice into your eyes because it is acidic and may cause ocular damage.

Hair Loss Hack

Rosemary essential oil can be a natural solution for treating hair loss. In a study published by the National Center for Biotechnology Information, Rosemary was shown to be an effective treatment against hair loss in patients with alopecia. Adding a few drops of rosemary to your shampoo may help reduce the amount of hair you lose.

Shampoo Swap Out

Traditional shampoo products clean your hair, but they also strip it of essential nutrients and healthy oils that your hair follicles need. This can result in hair becoming dry, flat and brittle. Your hair needs a balance of healthy oils on your scalp and in the hair follicles to look its best. So instead of reaching for the shampoo every time you shower, consider replacing it with baking soda every other wash!

Baking soda, also known as sodium bicarbonate, is a white powdery substance known for its many household uses. But baking soda can also be used in ways other than just making cookies and keeping your refrigerator smelling fresh.  It can be used as a natural “shampoo.”

To use, simply wet your hair as usual and sprinkle the baking soda onto your head. Rub it into your scalp thoroughly for at least two minutes before rinsing, repeat as desired. Allow your hair to air dry for best results.

Dry Hair Rescue

In the modern day, people typically color their hair with traditional dyes or use bleach to lighten it. This can cause hair to become dry and cause split ends. A great natural conditioning treatment is to use Argan Oil to fix and prevent these common hair problems.

Argan oil is a substance created from the seeds of argan trees, which are native to Morocco. This oil is filled with holistic ingredients which can soften and moisturize even the driest of hair.

To Use:  Wash your hair as usual and apply a quarter sized amount to the ends of your hair, working your way up to your roots. Do not rinse.  Style your hair as usual.

Dandruff Destroyer

Lemongrass essential oil can be used as a natural dandruff deterrent. Medical research on the treatment of dandruff by the use of the essential oil lemongrass was performed by the School of Cosmetic Science of Mae Fah Luang University. Their research showed that it was successful in the treatment of dandruff and also in treating patients with complaints of flakey, itchy scalps. Applying a diluted solution of lemongrass essential oil to your scalp may help you cure your dandruff issue.

To Use: Add lemongrass in a carrier oil, such as argan oil and then apply to scalp. Recommended therapeutic dosing for the treatment of dandruff is 4 drops of lemongrass essential oil per 1tsp of carrier oil applied to the scalp daily after washing.

All in One Hair Hack

Aloe vera is a natural remedy that conditions hair, moisturizes dry scalps and can treat dandruff. It can be safely applied multiple times a week and is hypoallergenic.

To Use: Wash and condition your hair as usual then apply to wet hair starting from the ends of your hair and working towards the roots. Let sit for 30 minutes before rinsing with lukewarm water.
