What you may not know is that cocoa butter is also a cooking ingredient. Many cuisines use cocoa butter for cooking as an imperative choice. Most cuisines however use it for in specialty dishes. Don’t randomly add this butter to any dish. Do not use anything other than food grade cocoa butter.
What is food grade cocoa butter?
Cocoa butter is available in many forms. You would get lotions, oils, organic facial masks and creams. Do not use these. You must use cocoa butter that is derived from cocoa nibs. Cocoa nibs are cold pressed which retain the nutrients of cocoa but gets rid of the topical elements, those that should be applied and not consumed. There are many brands selling food grade cocoa butter so you shouldn’t have any problem procuring them. You don’t have to make your own food grade cocoa butter.
Cocoa butter is best used in sweets and savories. The sweet flavor of cocoa can accentuate any sweet dish or dessert and can certainly be a prime ingredient in savory dishes. You don’t have to use it in generous amounts. Even a tinge of cocoa butter is good enough for flavor. You can use cocoa butter with beef fillets and can pan fry them. This butter can resist temperatures of up to 200°C so you don’t have to worry about it burning while cooking. You can use cocoa butter for cooking pastries, smoothies and in any dessert that needs or can do with a bit of a chocolaty flavor. You can use cocoa butter instead of gelatin in most recipes. Cocoa butter makes tasty and airy desserts so you don’t have to worry about soggy or stuffy sweets. Cocoa butter can be used in cakes as well. You can indulge in any kind of experimentation with cocoa butter as long as you are conscious that it will impart a sweet flavor to any dish it is added to.
