Can you cook with essential oils?

Cooking is a vital part of living a healthy lifestyle because all of us have to eat to fuel our bodies. It is important to give your body the most optimal fuel possible with healthy ingredients.  One of the most favored holistic products are essential oils.

What are essential oils?

Essential oils are compounds derived from plants, flowers, herbs and fruits that can be used for medical, culinary and comfort purposes.  They are used to treat physical, emotional and psychological ailments and promote general well-being.  The use of essential oils is widely practiced in holistic and alternative medicine.

Is It safe to use essential oils in the kitchen?

Do not ingest any essential oil without first checking with your physician, as some essential oils can interact with medications or certain conditions.

If you are going to use essential oils in your foods and beverages, it is imperative you use a food grade, 100% pure grade oil. Do not ingest or diffuse low-quality oils, as they may be filled with other products and not 100% pure. You will not get adequate health benefits from a fake oil and certain ingredients may even be harmful if the oils are filled with other, unnatural ingredients.

How can I use oils in my foods and beverages?

We all know drinking water is important to stay healthy, so a favorite use for essential oils is to spice up your bland water with different flavors. Adding a drop of food grade lime or lemon essential oil to your water can add a tasty element and even help your body alkalinize itself. You can also add a drop of food grade ginger essential oil to your water or other beverages to soothe nausea. Many bland dishes can be invigorated by adding a dash of various essential oils too!  For example, a few drops of food grade oregano oil can add fantastic flavoring to traditional tomato soup.

When safely used, essential oils can be a great addition to your kitchen.
